Welcome to Jesuit School @ Substack
I am a graduate of Dallas Jesuit and Xavier University and a retired public school teacher.
Jesuit School @ Substack is a newsletter examining the woke cultural conformity that has found a home at far too many Jesuit schools.
It is dedicated to those educators at all Jesuit schools who have a passion for teaching the subject they love and the skill to inspire others to learn. Such teachers understand that their charge is to pass on to future generations a time-tested body of knowledge, a rich and varied heritage of all that is True, Good, and Beautiful. Such teachers do not use their authority to create political acolytes and activists for pet causes.
If you are a parent of students currently attending Jesuit schools, an alumni who donates to your Jesuit alma mater, anyone interested in Catholic education, or education in general, you may find my posts of interest.
As some of you may know, Jesuit schools matter in this country. In the 116th Congress (2019-21), 14 Senators and 48 Congressmen were graduates of Jesuit high schools or universities. Three of the nine sitting Supreme Court justices (Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Thomas) attended Jesuit schools. The current chair of the Federal Reserve is a Jesuit grad.
While parents are holding public school boards accountable for the intrusion of Critical race, gender, and queer theories into the classroom, the parents and alums of Jesuit schools – and many others who care about Catholic education – may yet remain relatively unaware of the march through Jesuit institutions affecting their children and grandchildren and the future of our nation.
The posts will come on an irregular basis, all depending on time, reading, and research.
Here’s what I hope for: that readers will share any current posts (or archived ones) with others who may have similar concerns and interests.
Rather than suggest becoming a paid subscriber, it seems to me that, should you have a few dollars available, sending a donation to any school that has not yet fallen prey to moral relativism and Critical Social Justice would always be a worthwhile investment. Lord knows we need to nourish any excellent schools remaining that are not embarrassed by Western Civilization and the United States of America. We owe that to future generations to whom we are, at present, bequeathing the moral and intellectual wreck that postmodernism has made of the Academy.
I also maintain a website, The Jesuit School: Ensnared in the Postmodern World, which I invite you to explore at your leisure for information about (1) some of those colleges and universities not yet captured by our decadent culture, (2) articles & essays from thoughtful authors (see Menu), and (3) plenty of Jesuit stuff too. Thank you.
